This paper will go into detail about the Methodology, Design, and Data collection process for the final capstone project. My chosen topic With the fast progression and innovation of social media, we must consider its effect on users’ confidence and self-esteem. Those who utilize social media are continually centered around the number of preferences, how many shares they get, or how many followers they get. There is an explicit need to follow trends perpetuated by images presented on these social media platforms. At times, they are setting unrealistic standards, which can damage a user’s self-esteem if that standard is not met. This proposal will address the gap in research that shows whether social media affects the self-esteem of teens and young adults and, if so, is there a correlation between social media and suicide rates among those demographics. For this research, the design is basic research. For my final project, I aim to develop the current knowledge and predictions on the effects of if any exists that social media has on its teen users’ self-esteem and find a correlation between an increase in suicide due to this among this age group. I will attempt to answer these questions using a mixed-design approach combining qualitative and quantitative. I will use a correlational design to help determine the correlation and a case study.
