Guidance on Preparation
In this discussion, you will identify a recent/current public health program, and then discuss the relevant methods for evidence-based program evaluation. The core of this discussion is about how you connect the theories to the measurements of program evaluation. The question to consider is this: What are the measurements that (1) are based in theory and (2) may be used to evaluate the program? Before composing your main/initial discussion response, please download and use the Program Evaluation Methods Worksheet.
Prompt Identify a public health program that clearly uses one of the health behavior theories presented in this course. For your main/initial response, please determine how the program could be evaluatedâincluding (1) formative, (2) process/implementation, (3) outcome/effectiveness, and (4) impact evaluation method types. Ensure your response addresses the following:
Selecting Evaluation Methods: Why would the program use each evaluation method type?
Connections to Program Design: Do these evaluation methods relate to the health behavior theory that the program follows? For each method, please explain why or why not (with an example).
Theory-Based Evaluation Practices: Explain one measurement that is used in the given evaluation method.
To be clear, you are not being tasked to construct an actual program evaluation plan. This discussion merely focuses on the general types of program evaluation and their general connections to health behavior theory.
