The essay consists of answering ONE question which is in TWO parts. This assessment provides an opportunity to further demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of key issues around difference and diversity.
Critical thinking is therefore encouraged in student essay answers as long as it reflects the subject matter.
Students will write an essay that covers 4 of the following topics: gender, race and ethnicity, mental health, disability, social media, climate change. They must answer both parts (a) and (b). Topics covered in parts a & b should be different.
a) Social constructionism states that personal and group identities are socially constructed. Discuss in relation to: Gender & Disability (mental and/or physical).
Make reference to relevant social and psychological theories and research studies.
b) Consider the role that social activism has played and could play in reducing social inequalities and precipitating change in the UK. Discuss in relation to, giving examples from the literature: Gender Equality & Race and Ethnicity.
