As I have been reviewing the discussion boards in Med Aspects, I have noticed some word choices that I want to comment on. I would encourage all of you to stop using words like “crazy,” “insane,” “suffer,” and “victim.”
I am personally working on changing my word choices when “crazy” or “insane” first comes to mind – think about other words to use that do not invoke potential negative thinking towards individuals with psychiatric disabilities – words like “absurd,” “fanciful,” “fantastic,” “foolish,” “nonsensical,” “preposterous,” “unreal,” “wild,” “implausible,” “inconceivable,” “incredible,” “unbelievable,” “unimaginable,” “unthinkable,” “extravagant,” “ridiculous,” and “surreal.”
