Discuss interagency agreements and the organization’s role as a resource during times of major disaster. Describe if and/or how both elements of an EMSS structure are provided (first response and transportation of the patient). Examine accreditation and the impact on the organization. Describe the political aspects, both local and national, that influenced the development of the EMSS structure in which you practice. Examine the pros and cons of the political influence on the EMSS structure. Discuss the role of the program medical director (PMD) in relation to the EMSS structure and operations. Identify ways the PMD’s actions help to avoid legal liability. Identify ways that the PMD influences credentialing. Identify federal, state, and local resources available to support your organization. Identify the influence of nongovernmental organizations on the EMSS. Review emerging legal, political, and/or regulatory trends that will impact the EMSS. Discuss how the EMSS will respond to the trends.
