Directions One of my favorite of all-time Ted Talks is “My Stroke of Insight” by neuroanatomist Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor. Reading her book of the same title, was essential to helping me understand my own recovery after a traumatic brain injury. Prior to her stroke, Dr. Bolte Taylor was studying the structure of brains donated by people who had been afflicted with life-long struggles with Schizophrenia. In her Ted Talk and in her book, she describes the onset of her stroke, moment by moment as part of her brain functioning shutdown. During her recovery process, she experienced a surge of artistic expression and sensitivity to other people’s energy.
