Discussion question: Consider three jobs you know well, using the Big 5 model from the course textbook of personality, explain the personality traits necessary for each job (e.g., Police Officer; Openness-Moderate, Contentiousness-High, Extraversion-Moderate, Agreeableness-Low, Neuroticism-Low). After examining these three jobs, can you see why you may or may not have been a good fit? Classmate response to discussion question: The first job that comes to my mind is data entry in an office. This job was not a good fit for me as the job requires a low level of extraversion or that the employee be introverted, being closed is probably best as emotion plays very little role in this job, it requires a high degree of agreeableness and conscientiousness as a competitive person is not a good fit, and finally it is definitely a job that promotes and emotional stability and the desire to be stable which was not me at the time (Brown & Lent, 2013). Second job that comes to mind is working with individuals that are disabled. This job requires extraversion which worked for me, but it also helps to be less open as being in touch with emotions tends to make the emotional toll of the job very difficult (Brown & Lent, 2013). Agreeableness also needs to be high and I have a tendency towards being competitive (Brown & Lent, 2013). Conscientiousness this job requires being detail oriented, dependable and goal oriented which actually works well for me (Brown & Lent, 2013). This job also requires stability as others are relying on you to be a support which is difficult to do if you are not emotionally stable. Job three is a security officer which is my current job which fits me rather well. The level of extraversion for this job varies but in my case it requires a high level of extraversion as I work with hundreds of people (Brown & Lent, 2013). Second being open is also helpful assessing the emotions of others helps to interact and determine what level of threat the individual represents (Brown & Lent, 2013). Agreeableness, a higher level of competitiveness is somewhat helpful in this job as competitiveness tends to coincide with aggression which is necessary in this job (Brown & Lent, 2013). Conscientiousness is also high as the job requires being reliable, detail oriented and goal oriented. Finally, this job also relies upon emotional stability as weapons are involved and no one wants an emotionally unstable individual to have access to a firearm (Brown & Lent, 2013). Brown, S.
