Colleagues:
My philosophy of Nursing is inspired by the values instilled in me growing up as a child. I learned values such as integrity, humility, trustworthiness, Love, and compassion. This culminated during my sick days and taken care by nurses in the hospital. They showed me love, caring, kindness on which I build trust. My passion has always been to care and make a positive impact to my patients and the community at large. I will focus on the holistic wellness and empowerment of my patients, give them listening ears, respect regardless of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, or life choices. Nursing to me is all about the relationship established with patient and understanding their perspective. Being a nurse means being a friend, ear to listen, a shoulder to cry on, and a patient advocate. Essential elements of nursing consist of compassion, maintaining dignity, alertness, attentiveness, competence, responsibility, and respect. Mohsen, S et al (2013).
On global health issues, as a future DNP, I will embark on health awareness and prevention of preventable health issues, raise awareness about issues of global health and diversity in healthcare and promote positive social change. One of the major challenges facing the nursing profession is the globalization of nursing education, research, and practice. Kulwicki A. (2006). Diversity in nursing practice means providing competent care to clients from different cultures, conducting research in multi-cultural settings, and implementing educational programs to diverse populations. Key principles and practices that provide a framework for diverse relationships in nursing practice, research, and education must be driven by a professional commitment in building a global community that is inclusive, respectful, and dedicated to global health care for all. Through international collaborations and individual and collective partnerships, nurses can build bridges between and among national health care systems, strengthen the international health care infrastructure, broaden health care delivery systems, and improve the quality of health care for all. Kulwicki A. (2006).
Social change agents work to make an impact in the world on a local and global level. The impact they make depends on how many people they can influence to think and act in ways similar to them. To be effective at social change, an agent must be excellent at influencing others. Such as show it, is it in the best interest; listen, have a clear vision, be aware, be fearless, and have something someone wants. As a future DNP, I will Listen to my patients and the community at large. When you want to influence someone, the most important thing you should do is take a step back and listen. This allows the listener to engage in what is important to the talker. Effective social change agents draw people to them simply by listening Gualco, Dean, (2018).
