Learning Activity Content
This week’s learning activity will consist of the following:
Answer the following questions:
1-What are some issues associated with qualitative research and evidence-based practice? Create a list of these issues with explanations concerning how they are addressed.
2- What criteria must be met in order to consider a practice, evidence-based? Give some examples [three to four examples].
This week’s lesson covers chapters 26 and 27, and it will focus on evidence-based practice and developing a program of research. Topics covered include how evidence-based practice differs from quality improvement projects, analyzing evidence, and the value of building a research program. Criteria for evidence-based practice, ethical research considerations, and launching a research program are also covered.
After completing this lesson, you are expected to:
· Describe evidence-based practice.
· Explain how to evaluate evidence.
· Explain how to develop a program of research.
Chapter 26: From Research to Practice
Evidenced Based Practice
I believe that everyone in our class has at one point or another in their professional careers have encounters evidenced-based practice initiatives. By now in this course, you have come to realize that research is the foundation for evidence-based practice initiatives.
According to Tappen (2021), the ultimate outcome of nursing research is to apply its findings to solidify or improve practice. Our clinicians and patients are the biggest recipients of this initiative. Continued application of evidenced-based initiatives will strengthen the ties between research and practice. These practices increase the nurseâs knowledge of associated research. The continued usage of evidenced based practice will improve practice outcomes, save money, provide added protection, and most importantly mitigate malpractice.

Levels of Evidence in Research (When conducting research for evidenced based practice, it is always best to seek the highest or best levels of evidence. Seek the link below. However, there are fewer articles at the top of the pyramid, but they are the best and will yield the best results to support your evidence.

What are the reasons for quality and research initiatives? As per Tappen (2021) states, there is not much imagination required to understand the reason for these research initiatives. Patient safety and improvement can lend itself to many concepts. Drug improvement, practice initiatives, mitigation of practice errors, and the list continues. Two immediate concepts that come to mind are safety as well as infection control. In conducting these studies, we must remember that we are responsible for safeguarding the well-being of our patients in the study.
The formulation of a design is not always easy, there are considerations that must be accounted for you. As per Tappen (2021), one issue is design formulation where one must look at defining the content, looking for an occurrence in existing records, the sequence of events, population comparison, baseline adherence rates, complex interventions, encompassing a complex system transformation, and complex data analysis. To add the list of requirements it is imperative to consider ethical considerations. Refer to your text highlights the guidelines for publishing safety and quality study results.

Chapter 27: Developing a program of research
Tappen (2021) states that this concept is a series of studies that are aimed at filling a knowledge gap in research. This is an area where there are insufficient studies to address an issue encountered. Additionally, this could also be viewed as purposeful construction of new knowledge to address a problem where scientific knowledge is lacking. One example is when a new disease surface. There is value in construction of new research, the methodology for its implementation involves a process, if you refer to your course text and see how this development evolves or unfolds.
