Here in U. S., “Health care reform” and the “Affordable Care Act” are frequently used interchangeably which addresses the ever-increasing costs of national health care by individuals, families, and the government. It also discusses how people obtain health insurance as well as the benefits they receive. Health reform aims to lower the number of people without insurance while both lowering costs and raising standards of care. Health reforms that occur in health systems around the world differ depending on a variety of national characteristics in the context of global health (Health Affairs, 2022).
In my opinion, the health care reform is improving people’s health security by implementing changes that increase coverage and drive down prices for medical care. Additionally, it guarantees additional options and raises the standard of care for everyone. The law also has established exchanges, sometimes known as “markets”, where customers may compare plans in a simpler way (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2022).
Although most states removed practice restrictions, reimbursements under this reform are still at 85%. Studies have shown that although NPs offer the same level of care as doctors, they are not paid equally for it. In order to fully reward NPs for the care they provide, the existing Medicare reimbursement policy for nurse practitioners (NPs) needs to be revised. The Balanced Budget Act of 1997 gave NPs the authority to charge Medicare directly for the services they provide. However, only 85% of the physician rate is offered as compensation. The primary care reimbursement for all primary care practitioners must be equalized (Bischof & Greenberg, 2021).
Some personal experiences include friends who are employed but uninsured. Unfortunately, their employers do not offer health care coverages. Private insurances’ premium costs a lot so they opt to purchasing health insurance for themselves at the “marketplace” which are more affordable for them.
