Research Paper
Each student will develop a research paper. Paper topics should identify a current environmental health issue, highlighting data gaps, potential intervention strategies, and general environmental risk management considerations.
– Student research papers will specifically identify connections between their topic and the 10 Essential Services of Environmental Public Health
– The citation formatting for the paper will follow guidelines for a Commentary or Reviews paper of Environmental Health Perspectives: https://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/authors/reviews. The scope and organization of the paper will be developed by each student depending on their research and growing understanding of the topic. A methods section should identify the literature search approach, including search engines and keywords used, along with inclusion 4 and exclusion criteria. Please see the presentation slide template for a general outline of required sections. In addition, students should carefully review the rubric for the research paper before starting to work on their paper.
– Each paper must be a minimum of 15 pages long, doubleâspaced. Each paper must also contain two figures or tables located at the end of the document (following reference cited). These figures and tables, along with the references section, do not count for the mandatory length. A title page is encouraged, but also does not contribute to the minimum page length requirements. The research paper should not include an abstract.
– Use Times New Roman 12 point font, and 1â margins on all sides.
– Each paper must cite at least 30 references, and at least 25 of those must be peerâ reviewed journal articles. The remainder can be government or NGO reports, or books.
– The presentation template (Example), available in the course toolbox, also can be used an outline for the major headings of the paper (introduction, purpose, methods, results, potential for environmental health impact, interface with the 10 Essential Environmental Public Health Services, challenges/data gaps, and recommendations for interventions).
** I have uploaded the instructions for you, the rubric, and an Example paper that the instructor gave us. The example paper can be used to show how to set up the paper, but the beginning i.e. corresponding authors, running title, keywords, acknowledgments, competing financial interests, and abstract are not needed.
