Objectives:
To deepen your understanding of the influences of development by examining your own upbringing and how this influences who you are today (your behavior and emotional/social development).
To apply major theories and concepts of human development
To explore the influence of your culture
To summarize and integrate research into your writing, and to learn and practice APA writing format.
Directions:
General topic of paper:
How my development has influenced who I am today.
Topics to cover in your paper:
Describe your cognitive or social and emotional development and how this influences you now.
What is your attachment style, how was your attachment style created (consider your relationships with your primary caretakers), and how does it continue to influence you now?
What was your culture like growing up and how does this affect you now?
What have you learned to help you for your future development- what will you do differently and/or continue to do?
Prior to starting your paper, create a timeline with each stage of development from birth to your current age. Write important events during your development- your first words, when you learned to walk, started school, your first date, etc. You can draw pictures or use symbols to illustrate these moments. Include this timeline with your paper; if you hand-draw it, scan it or take a picture of it and attach it to your paper before you submit it.
You must use information that you’ve learned during the course from lectures, readings, and activities to explain your development in the areas discussed above (for example, you can use Piaget and/or Erikson’s theories to explain your development). Don’t just explain your development with no support.
Find 2 Empirical research articles and incorporate them into your paper using APA formatting for the in-text citations (please see instructions attached about how to locate an Empirical article and how to format your references and reference page using APA format)
Include a reference page at the end of your paper listing your references in APA format.
Paper must be 5-7 pages long, typed, double-spaced, standard margins, Times New Roman 12-point font.
