Please write about 1-2 paragraphs summarizing each major section of the article (Abstract, Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion). Your summary is likely to be about 3-4 pages in length (not counting title page, abstract, or references), but it will be graded based on its content and writing style, NOT based on how long it is.
Your summary will contain the following sections, which correspond to these same sections in the journal article:
Abstract:
In 1-2 sentences each, summarize the Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion sections of the journal article. USE YOUR OWN WORDS! Your abstract, when checked for plagiarism, should differ from the abstract in the original article.
Hint: even though it goes at the start of your paper, write this section last!
Introduction:
Summarize the background for the study. Be sure to include the research question and hypothesis as well as the support the authors provide for the importance of their study. Try to find their underlying argument for what their study adds to the knowledge in this area. Be sure to summarize their argument. Do not state it in their words; use your own. For example,
What did the authors already know about this topic?
How have past researchers studied this topic?
What are the real world implications of this study (how does their study connect with everyday behaviors)?
What new knowledge will be gained by the study?
What was(were) the specific research question(s) they were trying to answer?
Method:
Summarize the method for the study the authors reported. Including:
a brief description of the subjects
a description of what was measured including operational definitions (e.g., how the variable was measured, etc.)
what the subjects did during the study
what was measured from the subjects
what were the independent (if there were any) and dependent variables – be sure to distinguish between true independent and quasi-independent/subject variables
But remember that this is a summary, so every detail of the Method does not need to be mentioned.
Results:
Describe the results found in the study. What was the primary effect they were testing? What were the key results? Place particular importance on results that provide an answer to the research question you identified in the Introduction. Try not to focus too much on the statistics in the Results section. Instead, focus on the differences and the direction of the difference (e.g., which condition was higher or lower) they report were found.
Discussion:
State what answer was found for the research questions and what results gave them the answer.
What is the important knowledge contributed by this study?
What do these results tell us?
How are these results useful?

Please submit your paper in the formal of an APA Style manuscript. The trick is to make yours look like an APA Style sample paper, such as the one that begins on p. 326 of the 14th edition of Cozby & Bates’ Methods in Behavioral Research (note: if you’re using an older edition of the textbook, you should look online for resources on APA 7th edition style). You can look at the preceding pages in Appendix A to understand the details of what you’re trying to do, but in general, just imitating the model is the easiest way to get it right!
