This process could be paper-based or could already be integrated into the existing information system, but is not achieving its desired outcomes. The process could include anything from patient admission, discharge, transferal, a clinical visit, carrying out a protocol, clinical guideline, procedure, or an intervention, or receiving an order, etc. Provide a recommendation/solution using any form of information technology that could effectively address the problem and potentially improve overall health care quality.
Briefly describe the workflow at the clinical setting.
Start with a typical patient care episode and analyze the steps of the process from the beginning to end of care episode.
Include all levels and phases as well as personnel (clinical and administrative) who are involved. Completed paper is worth up to 500 points.
Identify the area of inefficiency in your practice and use a flow-chart to analyze the process. Show how it is carried out step-by-step. Include the standard symbols and rules for designing a flowchart, which you have learned in Unit 2. Use the underlying concepts of workflow, task analysis, human factor/ergonomics, human-technology interface, and utility testing to analyze nurse workflow problem and provide an information technology recommendation/solution that would potentially improve the processes of care as well as related clinical and administrative
outcomes. Review relevant literature and visit various websites provided.
