The Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs consists of seventeen goals adopted by the United Nations to protect the planet, end poverty, and improve the lives of people all over the world (United Nations, 2022). The seventeen SDGs were adopted in 2015 and a fifteen-year plan was set to achieve the goals by 2030. Sustainable development is important because the needs of the future should not compromise the future generations’ world of living (United Nations, 2022). Economic growth, reducing inequalities, protecting the environment, and social inclusion are three elements needed for all communities in the world to establish sustainable development. Local and regional governments are responsible for developing their own policies, programs, and plans to align with the seventeen SDGs, and it is important to have the best implementation strategy.
Roadmaps are detailed action plans that help to achieve a desired goal. Menus show what the desired goals are but does not include more information on how to achieve the goal. Roadmaps can contain important parts or sections that contain strategies that can be applied to specific needs, and can be used as a communication tool. Use of a roadmap makes more sense because of all the different countries involved. One country may implement awareness and advocacy strategies slightly different than another depending on their location, culture, and society.
