Mr. Jones. 56 afro amer, Flu shot 2 weeks ago. Heavy smoker, hx of presenting
illness: hoarseness, chronic cough wheezing.
Symptoms: 2 weeks after flu, Saltwater gargle, Allergies??, 15-year smoker active, six pack of
beer a week, New hoarse voice, hx of heroin clean for 4 yrs., hx of hypertension, fe def anemia,
blood in sputum over the past year. (a mixture of saliva and mucus coughed up from the
respiratory tract, typically as a result of infection or other disease and often examined
microscopically to aid medical diagnosis.)
Risk factors:
Increases the chance of a disease or condition developing. It increases the chances
of developing a disease or condition. Mr. Jones’ risk factors, based
on his symptoms smoking,
alcohol, and heroin use are risk factors, but not the flu shot.
Chest x-ray candidate
: wheezing, dullness of the upper rt lobe, hx of a smoker, risk for COPD or
lung cancer.
Chest x-ray findings:
Right upper lobe (Suspicion of neoplasm Further testing req), found a 3.5
cm mass, Dr. referring him to an oncologist to get a lung biopsy. Characteristics of a malignant
tumor:increase in vascularity, high degree of anaplasia, metastasizing. (Hallmark signs of amalignant tumor) Some effects of cancer on the body are Anemias, Blood clotting, Infections.
Pathologist will want to determine if tumor is malignant or benign. So that mr jones can beprovided Treatment to address the effects that caner has on his body. And wbc, rbc, and plateletsare low while carcinoembryonic antigen are high. Looks malignant tumor dx.
