Our environments shape our behaviors, choices every day, and the company we keep every day. The topic considered in this paper is mental health. Previous presidents have handled the issue of helping Americans to address mental illness. President Clinton and Vice President Gore administration signed and advocated for law in the 1996 Mental Health Parity Act (MHPA) (Goldman & Morrissey, 2020). Under MHPA, the Departments of Treasury and Labor have referral and coordination systems at the state and federal systems to investigate does by health insurance givers to make sure that laborers and their family members are not deprived of any defenses provided by MHPA (Wilhelm et al., 2020).
The current government is also handling the health problem. The federal government has conceded the mental health policy to the state under the administration of Biden. Some of Biden’s good plans on mental health are focusing on children’s mental health. Biden sets out to prevent children’s mental illness by curtailing social media effects that are harmful to children (Canady, 2022). Additionally, the building of mental health workforce, making funding for community behavioral health centers permanent, and ensuring insurance cover mental health are among the plans of President Biden to address the mental health problem (Canady, 2022).
However, I could do differently in handling mental health problems. First, I would uphold multi-stakeholder partnership in advancing global, national, and local determinations in favor of virtuous mental health. Secondly, I would formulate policies to justly edge and lead the use of new data and technologies for the early finding and preclusion of mental illness. Improving contact with mental healthcare would be among my efforts in handling mental illness. In addition, more mental health specialists would be trained to deliver mental healthcare at the community level.
