Free Market Reproduction
A free market is a place where consumers meet to purchase or sell goods. “The social impact of a free market depends upon the ethics that allow or prohibit buying and selling various commodities” (WCU, n.d.). In the free-market reproduction learning scenario the video talks about egg donation and the ethics of ivory use in the free market today.
Feelings on Scenario
After listening to this scenario, I believe there are some things that are good for the free market. But when they gave an example of ivory in the free market and how elephants would be put at an increased risk, I personally would not want to buy ivory. Regulating what can be put on the free market is a good idea because like this scenario said if they prohibit the sale of ivory sales would decrease thus decreasing the risk for Elephant tusks. I chose option see during this scenario I believe that the free market should be regulated somewhat on ethical issues. I feel as though if there was no regulation for ethical issues that there could be an increase in whatever supply and demand is being needed. Just like the scenario used elephant tusks for ivory it puts an elephant at an increased risk for danger if there aren’t regulations in the free market. “In the United States, egg donor agencies are becoming more widely employed in IVF, and they’re mostly unregulated, raising ethical and policy concerns about how physicians interpret and use them, as well as the potential consequences” (Klitzman, 2016)
Ethical theories
When it comes to assessing honesty of the participants of the free market. We must assess buyers and sellers’ trustworthiness, as well as the honesty of counterfeiters. Market members comprise of companies, financiers, workers, societies, unions, consumers, and governments. When dealing with the free market we must look at one’s character to see how they do business. Virtue ethics on moral character and virtue (Hursthouse & Pettigrove, 2016). Knowing someone’s moral character in business can show you why they would want to buy the stuff that they have in the free market.
Conclusion
The free market is a place where buyers and sellers can buy stuff that are in a supply and demand of hot products. Stuff on the free market such as egg donation should be more highly regulated. Without regulation on some of the stuff in the free market poses a risk to ethical issues. I agree in having regulations in the free market so that consumers are also safe from those who are selling in the free market that are scammers.
