Example Case Study 1: Positive Psychology
Positive Psychology Interventions incorporate training around strengths, positive emotions, and optimism. Research and insight from Positive Psychology suggest that Positive Psychology Interventions can improve well-being, improve mental health outcomes, and enhance resilience. Positive Psychology interventions have been developed and implemented in workplace settings, but evaluation showing the effectiveness of these interventions is limited. As a Positive Psychology researcher, you have been asked to review recent research on the efficacy of positive psychology interventions in the workplace and provide practical recommendations for implementing and evaluating positive psychology interventions.
Structuring your assignment
Your assignment should be presented and structured as follows, and we strongly recommend using these sub-headings to structure your essay.
1. Title
2. Description of the problem: 300 words. In this section, you should describe the issue outlined in the question. What problem are you being asked to advise on or provide a solution to? Why is it important to address? How widespread is the problem? Is it a current issue, long-standing or new? These are the sorts of questions you can address here. an introduction to the main points that will be covered in the report should also be included
3. Application of health psychological theory: 1000 words. In this section, you need to identify the health, psychological, and behaviour change theories, concepts, and research which you believe can help us to understand the issue described in the question. Then you will need to analyse the ‘problem’ considering those health psychological theories and concepts, showing the ways in which, they might help us to understand the processes involved in the problem you have chosen to focus on.
NB: Do not try to include every health psychological concept or theory which could be useful for understanding the issue. Instead, you need to show a detailed understanding of health psychology, and for this, it is best that you provide an in-depth discussion of a few concepts/theories (around 3) which are particularly relevant.
1. Implications for practice and recommendations: 500 words. Following on from your discussion of health psychological theory and concepts, you then need to discuss the key implications of your research. You need to respond here to what the hypothetical organisation has asked you to do. This section should describe and evaluate recommendations for resolving the problem, using the previous evidence presented as justification for your ideas. Do not provide a long list of recommendations – two to three discussed in sufficient detail will be much more effective. These recommendations should also contain references to the research reviewed in the previous section.
2. Summary: 200 words. This section should include a summary of the evidence and recommendations presented in the report
