This semester you will be researching the topic of COVID-19 and Health Insurance.
A successful paper (5 double spaced typed pages, excluding the title page and references) will briefly:
• Present a summary of a current situation associated with COVID-19 in the US
And …
• Describe at least 1 challenge associated with COVID-19 and insurance.
• Describe at least 1 or key health care player/stakeholders involved.
Then…. You must take one of two positions…
(1) Universal Health Insurance might have mitigated the outcomes associated with this event….
(arguing the point why we need universal coverage)
Or
(2) The current landscape of open market insurance, employer sponsored insurance, and our
public safety net systems were adequate to provide access to care and services. (why things
should remain the same with a mixed coverage approach.)
You will be given some latitude in this paper. For example, you could approach the issues from a
management, policy, research, or public health perspective. The choice is yours, but whatever you do,
the paper must be relevant enough to this course’s content area to ensure that it can be handled in the
manner discussed in above. Quick movement and correspondence with me regarding your perspective
should allow you ample to time to work on the paper.
One of the objectives of this exercise is to allow you to delve into the literature in this area.
In all cases you should start with the course resources, then move on to other texts. You should identify
some key literature on this topic, and your paper should draw on the evidence. However, this exercise
is not meant to be an in-depth literature review, rather you should use the literature to help you
understand and frame the issue.
Format Requirements:
• The paper should clearly indicate its goal and the course constructs it will explore.
• It should be 5 pages typed pages, excluding the references in length, double-spaced, with
normal 12 point font and standard ½ inch margins.
• You should cite (in APA format) a modest number of references (10+).
