The diagnosis is from the chapters assigned for this week. 2) In the second paragraph, list all applicable conditions from DSM-5 that start on p. 715 (“Other Conditions that May Be a Focus of Clinical Attention”) AND provide a brief explanation for each condition you selected. Please note that the post is graded based on your effort and explanation provided, regardless of whether you selected correct diagnosis. Discussion Post Sample Michael, 12 y/o: Based on clinical observation and parental report, Michael meets the criteria for Autusm Spectrum Disorder, Severity Level 1 (requires some support), Without Accompanying Intellectual Impairment or Language Impairment. Michael meets Criterion A, deficits in social communication and interaction, including (#1) deficits in social-emotional reciprocity, as he was not answering questions asked by social worker or answering them inappropriately (when asked âhow are youâ responded ânoâ). Michael also displays (#2) deficits in nonverbal communicative behaviors, as evidenced by lack of eye contact, flat affect, and turning away from social worker when approached. He exhibits (#3) deficits associated with relationships, as he reportedly does not have friends in or outside of school and appears to not be interested in peers. Further, Michael meets Criterion B, restricted or repetitive behaviors. This is evidenced by (#2) insistence on sameness (mother reports that Michael overreacts and has emotional outbursts when things are not going according to the usual routine, including meals, travel routes, or teachers at school. Additionally, he exhibits (#4) hyper-reactivity to sensory input (cannot tolerate loud noises such as sirens and thunder, certain fabrics and food textures). Michael is experiencing Educational Problems, as he is refusing to take exams at school because they are not part of his usual routine, which impacts his academic functioning. He also has Problems Related to Family Upbringing, as Michaelâs parents are divorced and father has minimal contact with Michael as he âcannot dealâ with Michaelâs behavior and symptoms. (Note: the criteria and symptoms directly from the DSM are in italics, and each is followed by evidence/examples from the case. You donât have to use italics, this is just so that you see what comes directly from the DSM and what info is from the case study).
