In this Assignment, you will develop your own strategic career plan for starting your new career as an NP. There are many steps that need to be accomplished. Use the following guidelines to design your career plan. You do not need to include references. This is a plan that you may layout how you wish. Be creative, and really think about what you desire as a nurse practitioner. As everyone will have different goals, there are no right or wrong answers in this plan.
1.It is time to take inventory and ask yourself some questions. What is your career vision? Be specific and honest. To complete my post masters in psych and then obtain my DNP at my current university.
Where do you want to work? I would like to work at a primary care practice that cars for patients ranging from 18 and up.
What are your short term and long-term goals (give timeline)? Short term goals is to work at a primary care practice for 1 year after graduation to gain comfort and experience.
What are the most important things you are looking for? Long term goal is to partner up with a colleague and own a practice. In this practice we would like to introduce womenâs health and some psych care.
Discuss your desires for salary, vacation, sick leave, CME allowance, medical benefits, retirement, etc. Perhaps you have a niche such as managing chronic diseases in patients over 65 years old. In the beginning I understand I may have to take a pay cut which can range from $45 and up an hour. In the future when I own a practice this may change. Vacation, I would like to take one mouth off every year that is if I have my own practice. If I must work for a company, Paid vacation, paid time off, paid sick time, great medical benefits, with an awesome retirement package would be great. From my understanding when you precept students that can count for CE credits/ allowance.
2.Next, describe your ideal work situation. Is it a rural clinic or major trauma center? Ideal work situation is a family practice clinic in a busy shopping plaza, not a rural area but it is in the out shirts of the major city.
Who is your target patient population? Target patient population would be ages 18 and up.
Do you have a passion for a particular population or specialty? I have a passion for psych and womanâs health.
What schedule do you want? I love 12 hours shifts but If that is not possible, I would like to work 4 day 10 hours.
What are the priorities in your career right now? Priority now is to graduate from my current NP program and pass boards.
Where do you see your career in five years? To obtain my post masters in psych, my DNP and top it of with my own practice.

I could work at the clinic where I am currently doing my clinical rotation. If that doesnât work, I will attend different job fairs. I am currently signed up with an agency that staffs NPâs.
4.Networking is essential for todayâs healthcare provider. Discuss your networking ideas. What Internet resources might you use to network and connect with other healthcare providers? I will join professional organizations like American Nurse Association (ANA) and American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) which I recently join. Attend seminars, workshops and various conferences. Linkedln, Sermo and Doximity are great social platform. Volunteering will help network to.
5.How will you prepare for the interview? What specific steps will you take? One important step is researching the company you wish to work for.
6.Imagine you are starting your own practice. What population will it serve? Ages 18 and up
How will you market your practice? Websites, Modernizing the office, connect om Linkedln, social media advertisements.
What personnel will you need to hire? Office manager, secretary, medical person and lab person.
How will you obtain funding? Grants and loans.
Will you be open extended hours to meet the needs of working patients? Yes, some weekends and evenings like closing at 8pm and short hours on Saturdays and Sundays.
Will you be the sole provider, or will you hire other providers? Plan is to have a partner.
