Case Study and Treatment Plan Assignment
This is a Signature Assignment; therefore, your paper and instructor comments will be included in your student portfolio. You will be writing a case study of a hypothetical case you are treating. You may choose to study a celebrity or politician who has disclosed a sexual problem. You may also choose to listen to one of the many free podcasts found on the Savage Love Podcast which usually highlights an anonymous person who typically is seeking feedback on relationship issues (www.savagelovecast.com). Whatever the “client” you choose, you are to pretend that you are treating that person in therapy. The paper must be a minimum of six (6) FULL pages in length and a maximum of nine (9) pages. The body of your paper should include the following:
Presenting problem
History
Client’s Psychosexual Timeline – Include the major events in the client’s life from birth to present. The timeline should specifically note psychosexual development, both positive and negative events with decent explanation. Dates should include month and year. The timeline should be approximately one (1) to two (2) pages in length. If you do not have “real” information on this client, you can “create” information to appropriately fill in the timeline in a way that makes sense. This piece of the assignment will be clearer after we discuss the use of psychosexual timelines in class.
Description of the sexual issue
Describe cultural, ethnic, racial, religious, and family influences on the client’s sexual development.
Consider other dynamics and psychosocial factors that influence the client; past, present, and future.
Formulation of the problem or problems. This should be a summary of the major problem(s) and a theoretical formulation of the underlying problem(s) that accounts for the sexual difficulty or difficulties. Include any strengths which demonstrate resiliency models of therapy.
Treatment Plan. State the treatment goals along with the strategies that you will use or are using as the treating clinician. Include any foreseeable obstacles to change. Ensure that your language of change (the treatment section) is consistent with your formulation of the problems and that both reflect your theoretical formulation and approach you are using to treat the couple
