Assignment #1 OUTLINE for your Research Paper – “Aging and the Challenges of Disability” 5 points 500 words (2+ pages max.) This assignment must be a Word doc., not a PDF. (Submit by 11:55pm in the Assignment #1 drop box on our Moodle site) This assignment is an outline of the proposed research paper you will be working on in our course. Clearly number and label each section of the outline following the steps listed below. Use both short sentences and point form when completing each step. STEPS for STARTING your Research Select your topic related to aging and disability from the Modules listed in our course outline: Module #5 (Personal Health and Illness), Module #6 (Successful & Psychologically Healthy Aging), Module #7 (Health Care Challenges), Modules #8 & #9 (Family Life and Social Supports) and Module #12 (Housing and Transportation). ?Read the sections of the textbook chapter (s) that relate to your topic and review the slides. ?Do an author or subject search on the Mount Library site or another academic search site. Note: the full citation for these articles and don’t just copy them as links. ?Review and read a few of the other resources with links listed near the Assignment #1 Guidelines. Both the Statistics Canada 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (report and infographic) and the 2019 Government of Canada Accessibility Act will give you some background information. Also note that Nova Scotia is one of four provinces that has provincial Accessibility Policy legislation. Ontario. Quebec and Manitoba are the only other provinces with confirmed legislation while British Columbia has been developing a policy. STEPS for COMPLETING this OUTLINE You may just use these numbers and headings for each section of the outline. (1)Your paper title will be the main “Research Question.” (Do not use the term “elderly” in this title or this course unless you are referencing very frail older adults.) (2)A thesis statement will serve as the general introduction to the research question with a short list of 3-to-4 key issues you would like to cover. Support this des?r?ption of the issues with citations from academic journal articles (min. of 4) and/or the other relevant reports and sources you have found so far. (3)Select and describe a few of the potential assets and advantages (min. of 3-to-4) an adult would gain if there were changes and improvements in the supports and services they could access to help them cope some of the challenges you describe. This is just a very preliminary list. (4)Create a short summary paragraph that briefly describes the potential importance of the findings for older adults and their families who will be affected by your research. (5)Add a Notes to the Instructor paragraph – include any questions you have about your topic or the assignment. This will save you time – instead of sending an e-mail. (6)At the end, include a preliminary reference list for the 4 academic journal articles and any other sources you are thinking of using (can be more than 4). This list will be in alphabetical order by author(s) last names (and first initials) or the producer’s name. You may want to also include a separate list of articles, reports, Statistics Canada research or other government websites and media you are considering that you would like me to review. (7)Use APA format for all in-text citations and including your list of references. Do not use end-of-page footnotes.
