How did they diagnose? What are the risks? Where did they refer the patient on to? (General surgeon?) Discussing treatment option what other option do the patients have? Look at there social circumstances? Which treatment option is the best? Patient to be invited to pre assessment operative? Will they be pre med? Why? Will there medication be stopped? Why? Anaesthetic? What’s there asa grade What are the different anaesthetic choices? Which one will our patient be having and why? Pain relief? Patient positioning? Blood requirement? Surgical Infection control? What prep is going to be used Who checklist? The stages and how it’s happening Surgical procedure: positioning? surgical approach? What technique will be used? Managing blood loss? If patient has pre existing condition does it impact anything during the surgery? Are there going to be any specimen taken if so why? Any drains? Closure? What dressing will be put on? Why? Hand over to post operative? How long they going to be there for? Length of stay? Where they going to go? What other professional will be involved? Post operative discharge? Where they going back home? Any adjustments to be made at home? Do they need any other professional? Do they need further treatment or operation? When the next appointment?
