This is a three layered paper. Paper #1 Assignment Description and Grading Rubric
NOTE: Please review the guidelines/rubrics for Paper #1, #2, #3, and Presentation to provide context for the entire semesterâs work for
the project. Papers and the presentation will build, one upon the next.
Assignment Overview: The purpose of this paper is to identify the problem of interest to explore during this course. This topic must be related to public health, epidemiology, or genetics. You should introduce the topic area and articulate the question to be addressed. This must involve a comparison of some kind, for example settings, populations, or policies. For instance: What is the epidemiological impact [traumatic brain injury incidence, morbidity, mortality, and cost] of wearing helmets versus not wearing helmets when riding motorcycles? This assignment includes definitions of the main variables of the project (i.e., population, setting, outcome) of your question using scholarly resources. Scholarly resources include your textbooks, reputable websites (such as .gov or .org websites) and peer-reviewed journals. Paper length should be 2-3 pages of text (excluding title and reference pages).
General Information: All papers in the course must adhere to APA 7th edition Student Paper guidelines. Include a title page in the paper. On the pages that follow, begin with the introduction of your topic, and then introduce your question. This portion should also provide thorough descriptions and definitions of the main variables for the question. Provide citations for all sources used, including definitions. Ensure proper use of headings in the paper to guide the reader logically. For instance, headings related to Problem of Interest; Topic Question; Variables might be appropriate for paper #1. The Reference page should follow the body of the text. Keep in mind that scholarly writing typically does not use personal pronouns; be sure to avoid writing in the first person (so no I, me, we, or us).
